All Lamp Ships have what is called a green ring this sections contents most of a Ships life support systems, including water filtration, oxygen production and the Ships Bioreactions that provide for the ships own biological needs. This ring of rooms also Contains all of a ships farming structures that for the fully spacefaring species is pretty much the be all, end all of there farming practices. These can be split into two main groups Green Rooms and Dark Rooms.
Green Rooms:
This is where lamps grow all there planets, this makes up about 70% of a lamps biological needs. Like Earth plants these are DNA based and can for the most part be eaten by Extremophile Species like Humans and Aniryu. Though unlike earth plants they don’t use iron in there respiration and have high levels of copper and silver that would probably kill both species if that is all they ate. Most plants flower many becoming bioluminescent ether as they flower or ripen. Their Pollinates are also cultivated. Lamp plants grow well under Orange light which has let to theories in the Lamp Lumenologists (think anthropologist but lamps) groups that the planet they where original created on was around an orange star.
Darkroom:
This is where lamps cultivate their fungi and pollinators, everything in this room is poison to none lamps. The fungi contain heavy metals like Mercury that are important to a Lamps diet. Both them and the “bees” contain an amino acid that is only found in Lamps, this Amino acid acts as a past of their metal bonding DNA systems in the form of a nucleotide. Unfortunately for anything that is not a lamp this looks a lot like Uracil which they body will happy replace this Nucleotide with and make it a lot of problems in protein folding. Normally acute versions of this look like liver failure in humans and causes dizziness, uncontrollably shaking and vomiting. To Lamps though these are really tasty and the “bees” produce a honey like goo that is a favorite treat.
Do to this on mixed crew ships like Green’s meats and fungi tend to be added to a persons dish and big pot meals are usually vegan, as Lamps can’t toleration the Heme iron and Vitamin b12 found in human meats well usually vomiting it up.
All thing Cultivated by lamps can tolerate a wide range of gravity but do need time outside of zero G to grow properly. they are very go at pulling pollutants from the water which is why despite Lamp waste water being toxic to most life, their drinking water is safe to drink though non-lamp crew tend to need to add minerals back into the water as it’s pretty much Rodi water out of the tap.
Saratoans adapted to seeing in the dark during a time when their ancestors were nocturnal, and the multi-hole pupil was a tool to maintain high accuracy when spitting while still being able to open the pupil wide at night - they re-adapted to daytime life but didn’t lose the pupil because it’s still serving their venom spitting
Dryad:
Dryads technically do not perceive light directly, instead relying on magic, which is why their eyes fail to maintain a dark interior. Their eyes have a secondary purpose, acting as a compass. Their gaze is naturally drawn subconsciously to their own tree, so they always have a sense of where home is.
